Briquettes are now becoming a popular alternative fuel. Besides being more environmentally friendly, briquettes are also known to be economical and practical to use. But did you know that there are actually two ways to make briquettes? They can be made using traditional or modern methods, each with its own advantages.

Traditional Method: An Old Heritage That Still Survives

In some areas, especially in rural regions, briquette making is still done in the traditional way. It all starts from natural materials such as rice husks, sawdust, or coconut shells. These materials are dried and then slowly burned in a closed container until they become charcoal but not completely burned out.

After that, the charcoal is crushed into fine powder, mixed with a little water and natural adhesive (usually tapioca flour), then molded using simple tools. The molded briquettes are then dried under the sun for several days.

The advantage of this method is that it is cheap and can be done by anyone. However, the disadvantage is clear, the production time takes longer and the results are sometimes less consistent.

Modern Method: Fast, Clean, and Stable Quality

Today, many producers have switched to modern methods. The entire process is controlled by machines to make the results neat and fast. The raw materials are dried using a dryer, burned in a carbonizer at high temperatures so that the charcoal becomes perfectly cooked, and then ground into fine powder in a grinder machine.

After that, the charcoal is mixed with an adhesive in a mixer, molded using a press, and finally dried in an industrial oven so that it dries evenly.

The result is dense, durable briquettes with high calorific value. Suitable for household needs, culinary businesses, and even large-scale industries.

It is not only about efficiency, but the use of briquettes also helps the environment because the raw materials come from organic waste. Especially when compared to wood charcoal, briquettes are clearly more eco-friendly because they do not cause deforestation.
